Brave Rail Employee Endures Life-Threatening Injuries Amid Multiple Knife Incident on High-Speed Train
A brave railway staff member who stepped in to save passengers during a mass stabbing attack on a express train has sustained life-threatening injuries, police stated on Sunday.
Details of the Terrifying Event
Surveillance video reportedly depicts the employee trying to halt the attacker as the train journeyed between a city and another station in Cambridgeshire. Witnesses described a terrifying 14-minute duration after the train left Peterborough, with injured passengers fleeing through compartments.
The suspect, a 32-year-old citizen from Peterborough, is in detention for questioning. Police announced a major event on the 6:25 pm service from Peterborough to King's Cross in downtown London.
Crisis Reaction and Aftermath
The event on the weekend resulted in 11 people being treated in hospital after the train made an unscheduled stop at platform 2 in Huntingdon. Five people have since been released from medical care.
A witness recorded the suspect waving a large knife and being shot with a Taser as he faced officers on the station. He was reportedly heard yelling, "Kill me, end my life."
“This was a horrific attack that has had a wide impact. Our sympathies go out to the injured and their loved ones – especially the brave employee of rail staff whose family are being assisted by trained personnel,” stated a high-ranking law enforcement official.
Union Response and Calls for Measures
Rail unions were quick to commend employees and demand increased measures. One union official said he would be “requesting immediate discussions with government, rail employers and law enforcement to ensure that we have the strongest available support, resources and robust procedures in operation”.
A different association leader encouraged the train operator and authorities “to act swiftly to examine safety, to help the impacted employees, and to make sure that no incident like this happens again”.
Driver Praised for Rapid Action
The train driver who stopped the service at Huntingdon was described as being “very shaken” but “well”, and has been commended by association representatives for doing “precisely what was needed”.
“He did not halt the service in the middle of two stops where it’s obviously difficult for the first responders to access, but he carried on going until he got to Huntingdon, where the response was pretty much already there,” stated a association representative.

Authorities stated they received the initial distress reports at 7:39 pm, and the service was forced to make an unplanned stop in Huntingdon at 7:50 pm.
