Live Match Coverage

21 mins: Fierce Play as Both Teams Compete

21 mins: The Broncos advance to halfway and almost pierce the defensive line through Reece Walsh and Gehamat Shibasaki on the left flank. A further excellent delivery from Adam Reynolds on the final play maintains the Broncos' momentum. Over three plays they stay on the front foot, but some quick passes free the speedy Hughes, and when he's brought down on the 40-meter line, a six-again is given for holding down. The Storm are now in rhythm, and Warbrick slices through the line, followed by Coates making a sprint – only for Reece Walsh to make high contact with a shoulder charge! Is that a sin-binning? No, says Atkins, because the winger was dropping low. Walsh is placed on report nonetheless, and the Storm resume their onslaught.

19th Minute: Cameron Munster Leads Melbourne Offense

19 mins: Cameron Munster is active as the Storm charge quickly down to their attacking 30m line. On the right side, Jahrome Hughes kicks high, Katoa sprints forward, but in the aerial battle, the second-rower loses the ball, and Brisbane at last get a respite.

18th Minute: Storm Exert Force on Broncos

18th minute: Melbourne perform a textbook set from the kickoff and put plenty of force on Deine Mariner with the final kick. Once more, the Brisbane struggle to advance the midfield in response, and Reynolds is forced to kick long to stay in the game.

17th Minute: Injury for Melbourne

17 mins: It’s not all good news for Melbourne. Howarth has been subbed out due to a groin injury. Wishart is entering in his place.

SUCCESSFUL TRY! Storm 12-6 Broncos (Eliesa Katoa, 15)

Brilliant, just brilliant. After back-to-back restarts, the Broncos are flagging. From tackle three near the try line on the left side, the Storm send the ball inside for a couple of passes before Jahrome Hughes kicks it off the ground and the charging Katoa times his charge perfectly to dive on the loose ball and stand to mark his team’s second try!

From just to the right of the posts, Meaney kicks his second goal.

12 mins: Storm Show Exciting Offense

12 mins: Melbourne look dynamic in offense. There’s speed from the ruck, power from the forwards, and sharp passing from the backs. A dangerous attack concludes with a kick high to the left corner that is dropped by Reece Walsh and results in a infringement to the Melbourne for an obstruction on Xavier Coates. Melbourne reject the penalty goal and get to work under the posts. There’s a six again – and another – as Cameron Munster dances side to side.

10th Minute: Back-and-Forth Action

10th minute: Stefano Utoikamanu has lived up to his word from the start and his carry from the restart allows first Grant, then Papenhuyzen, to snipe from acting half. Jahrome Hughes boots from 40 meters and Walsh secures the high kick on his 10-meter line. Brisbane carry less penetration this drive and get fortunate on the final play when Hunt’s pass to Reynolds goes to ground. Not to worry, the veteran halfback delivers a great kick to force Xavier Coates to retreat and forces the Storm winger to run from his try line. The Brisbane are overzealous with their pursuit, hitting the Queenslander with a high tackle, and Storm can gain favorable territory.

CONVERTED TRY! Storm 6-6 Broncos (Nick Meaney, 8)

From the scrum, Stefano Utoikamanu drives hard to the 20-meter line. Next, from fast play from the play-the-ball, all of Melbourne’s big names handle the ball as they move it out to the right hand side until Nick Meaney straightens up, angles in at serious pace, and carves through a flimsy tackle line to dive over for an instant reply!

The centre recovers to kick the goal. It's a tied game!

7 mins: Teams Exchange Sets

7th minute: The two teams exchange conservative sets either side of midfield, but then the Brisbane attempt to attack on their left side, only to be unable to find Shibasaki with the pass. Warbrick advances quickly and forces a dropped ball for his efforts.

5 mins: Dream Start for Broncos

5 mins: That is the perfect beginning for the Broncos, taking the lead before the Storm have even handled the ball, in an offensive play led by both Haas and Walsh. The Storm might feel a little aggrieved at the referee blowing such an early penalty, but they were clearly breached by the blistering Broncos attack.

CONVERTED TRY! Storm 0-6 Brisbane (Mariner, 3)

After kicking downfield, Brisbane get to work. Storm give away a six-again for being offside, and in no time the ball is in the red zone. Reece Walsh positions himself? Lurking on the right side, drawing in Jack Howarth, holding his position, then someway passing to Mariner on his outside. The winger steps inside, crosses the try line, then just, only just stays in the playing area as he moves to touchdown beneath the goalposts.

There’s a delay before Reynolds dabs over the conversion, but the Bunker confirms the on-field decision. Accor Stadium is rocking to the sound of ecstatic fans.

2nd Minute: Quick Penalty

2nd minute: Jensen, not Haas, takes the initial carry of the night and Melbourne are up sharply… but just three tackles later the Melbourne give away the first penalty of the night for Harry Grant interfering with Haas on the floor. Brisbane immediately on the attack.
